From Grammar-Translation to Audio-Visual to Communicative – language learning, teaching and assessment has always been an evolving discipline. But it is probably not an over-statement to say that the events of recent years have accelerated change in a way that no one could have imagined. The pandemic has forced us to re-think how we teach and learn – and what we teach and learn. Necessity forced many to embrace new digital technologies and all the signs suggest that many of the changes that we had to make are now here to stay.
So, what will language teaching and learning look like in 2030 and beyond? How will new technologies such as AR, VR and ChatGPT impact teachers and learners? What role will AI play? This session will address these questions and outline what Pearson is doing to support teachers and learners today and in the future.
Speaking confidently and fluently is the aim of many learners of English. In this session, we'll consider the principles behind effective speaking lessons and look at ways in which the new edition of Speakout embraces those principles, scaffolds speaking lessons, builds learner confidence, provides plenty of practice and develops fluency in speaking lessons. We'll also look at opportunities that Speakout provides for speaking practice outside the classroom with its innovative tools and consider how we can integrate use of these in our courses. We'll try out activities along the way.
Ask any Talent Manager (formerly known as HR managers) and they will tell you that when it comes to language training, what they expect is ready-made solutions with built-in accountability for results. Language training is an investment, so it is only logical that return on this investment (ROI) is going to make its way into the discussion and will affect the choice of language services provider.
