ELT is a service-based industry, so customer experience is make or break for most, if not all language teaching organisations. This has implications for business models adopted by private language schools and for developing future-proof strategies in quality business and academic management.
There is no need to use a crystal ball to feel fundamental shifts happening in the industry. Some of these changes have been in the making for quite some time, some have been either brought about or speeded up by the pandemic. In the face of decreasing numbers of potential clients, how organisations respond to this challenge of change will determine if they will stand out in a crowd of competitors, or slowly become history.
In this session we will look at ways in which LTOs can utilise lessons from the pandemic and advances in educational technology to provide a holistic and relevant experience to their customers and to ensure that customers don’t stop coming back.

It is clear that the use of such kinds of tools involves both advantages and disadvantages for learners, teachers, and test administrators. Throughout her carreer Ania Kolbuszewska has worked internationally as a trainer, manager and educational consultant, providing business and academic consultancy in mainstream and private education at primary, secondary, tertiary and further education level. Ania is also a mediator with a keen interest in conflict management theory and practice.A former Eaquals Board member and Director of Eaquals Accreditation and Consultancy Services, she now continues to work as an auditor for this international quality assurance organisation. She is the author of the "Eaquals Self-help Guide to Teacher Development" and co-author of Eaquals Academic Management Competency Framework.Together with her husband Andrzej Stęsik she has written Use of English materials for Pearson.Ania is a member of Leadership and Management SIG and Business English SIG of IATEFL.
Grant Kempton has been involved in ELT for more than 35 years. During that time, he has been a teacher, tester, curriculum coordinator, school director and teacher trainer. From 2000-2006 he was the global teacher trainer and travelled the world training teachers. He received his MA in ELT from Reading University and wrote coursebooks for Pearson. Having worked for Pearson for more than 13 years, he is now Product and Consultancy Manager for the Middle East, Turkey and North Africa. As part of his job, he has been directly involved in digital acceleration across these regions. He also has two girls, both of whom act as advisers to him on what is ‘in’ with their age-groups. Little help it does him….
Imogen is a Product Manager with Pearson English, and manages a portfolio of adult and business titles. She has worked at Pearson since 2010, and in ELT since 2003, publishing titles such as Gold, Gold Experience and, most recently, the new global adult course Roadmap.
David Booth is the Director of Test Development for Pearson Tests of English. He is responsible for the development of specific Pearson tests ensuring that all tests are developed to the highest standards. He is an experienced teacher, teacher trainer and assessment professional.
Before joining Pearson, David worked for 10 years at Cambridge ESOL, a part of Cambridge Assessment. David also has extensive academic management, teaching and teacher training experience working for the British Council in South Korea, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Dr. Bill Bonk is the Director of Psychometrics & Measurement at Pearson. He has a joint PhD in Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Science, and a master’s degree in Second Language Studies. He has taught English in France, Italy, Ecuador, Japan, and Brazil, and loves learning second languages himself. He has worked on various English tests within Pearson for the past ten years, including tests for young learners as well as adults. He lives in Boulder, Colorado and has a passion for gardening and cooking.
Andrew Khan is Senior Market Development Manager for English Assessment at Pearson and has been with the organisation since 2006. He travels the world, meeting with schools, universities and national governments, to help ensure that Pearson’s assessment solutions best meet the needs of learners and teachers.
Focusing primarily on computer-based testing, he has worked with institutions on the implementation of assessment tools ranging from in-class placement solutions to formally certificated qualifications.
A graduate of the London School of Economics, he’s based in Rochester, Kent
